"In about 1980 Andrew Lanyon began a trilogy of books about Walter Rowley, an iconoclast from St.Ives who discovered that art is the only visually transmitted virus. Twenty years and nine books later the Rowleys (Walter, Mervyn and Vera) are still going strong, in books but also in films. There is no need to have read any of the Rowley series before to enjoy or fully grasp an individual volume. They are too loosley connected. Anyone who wishes to buy the complete set (as does occasionally happen) need not be disappointed with regard to its completeness as photocopies of the two out-of-print volumes can be 'thrown in'."
